What should we do now? Double the force in Iraq and stabilize the situation by spring. This can only be done with a truly broad-based effort, one not seen as a US occupation. Political and economic control would have to be ceded to the UN. Barring this, get ready to keep counting the American dead and watching the region slip out of control and possibly into civil and regional war, while real threats like North Korea continue to build and drift towards very dangerous and real WMD proliferation and/or a very real war with very real WMD.
