Telecom eyes W-CDMA

Nov 05, 2003

Telecom is considering using an alternative technology to its CDMA 1X to build a side network for the delivery of third generation mobile services.

Telecom uses CDMA for its mobile network, while its rivals Vodafone and TelstraClear have backed the advanced mobile standard W-CDMA to deliver 3G.

Confusingly Vodafone's GSM technology is compatible with W-CDMA while CDMA 1X which runs Telecom's 027 service is not.
