OK, yes, I'd consider the Khmer Rouge to be Cambodian patriots, when they opposed the invasion by the Vietnamese army. They were defending their homeland. What was left of it, after they'd killed a substantial fraction of the population.

For that matter, I'd consider Stalin to be a Russian patriot, when he marshalled the Red Army to stop the Germans in front of Moscow in 1941. The fact that he had previously killed millions of Russians and Ukranians during collectivization, doesn't change that.
