They got 56% of Palestine If you don't count desert territory I think they got less then 50%. What do you think the WB or Gaza are.......beautiful oases? And you forget the jewels that Israel got......the ports including Haifa and Jaffa, the mts in the north and all the water they hold, the miles of beautiful Mediterranean beaches etc. We've been through this before........Israel hardly got screwed and now they have much more than 56% of Palestine.a land where they did not live in earnest until the 20th century. Which started a couple of generations before the creation of Israel. They did live their "in earnest" at the time of the partition. And what of the Palestinians who had lived there for over 2 millennium? In fact, it wasn't until 1900 that Theodor Herzl, THE proponent for the Jewish state, set up the International Jewish Fund which raised the money so that Zionists could buy Palestinian land. 1900 is 47 years before Israel became a country. And 70 AD was when they left. Who do you think maintained the land between 70 AD and 1900 AD...........a caretaker service? Palestine was the Palestinians until the Zionists came calling with all their money. We paid Mexico good $$$ for TX.............$10 million if I remember correctly. We paid them $15 mil, not sure if that's just for TX or TX and more. But we didn't give them a choice in the matter. Well, the Israelis expelled the Palestinians, didn't give them a choice and didn't pay them for the land and buildings they confiscated. As for TX, TX broke away from Mexico and formed a separate republic. We annexed them at least 2 decades later and tried to do they right thing by paying off Mexico. What have the Israelis done for the Palestinians? Squat is the correct answer.......and yet you defend them. But I wasn't talking about the settlement after the Mexican American war, or the war itself, or the annexation of Texas by the US. I'm talking about 10 years earlier when Americans, who had moved in to Texas over a number of years, revolted against Mexico and became an independent country. They got 100% of the territory in question (Texas) even though they had not be a serious presence for as long as the Israelis has been a serious presence in Israel/Palestine before 1947. And so because the Texans did it, the Israelis had the right to do the same and to keep dangling Palestinian independence on a stick for over 50 years?BS. You hardly make a point when the amount of land is .5% or less. If you say "they didn't own land" and they owned .5% then your statement is false. Also your statement was about 1920 but they owned more then .5% by then. You don't have a point. The amount of land owned was negligible to the point where its not worth mentioning. Even by 1947, the Israelis owned only about 20% of the land in Israel. Only Tel Aviv had a majority of Israelis.....the rest was predominately populated by Palestinians. Why do you think they expelled so many Palestinians?what of the thousands of generations of Arabs that farmed and ranched the land? They were dirt poor. The Zionists had access to money raised by the International Jewish Fund in Europe. So since they are poor they should be given the land even if they didn't own it before (because it was owned by Turks, or non-Palestinian Arabs or Europeans), or if they owned it and sold it to the Jews? No but you don't expelled and then withhold their independence. Why should Israel be more continguous than Palestine? Are the Israelis better so they deserve a better deal? Any deal that leaves Israel as insecure as they where in 47 is simply a non-starter. To even go back to the pre-67 borders Israel is giving up a lot while the Palestinians are basically only giving up dreams that they where not going to realize anyway. Insecure? Why do you think the Arab nations don't attack her? We've turned Israel into a regional superpower.....one where its gone to her head and she goes along the beach kicking sand in everyone's faces. Israel attacked Syria with impunity a month ago.......for reasons that were not justifiable. Sharon is the single biggest threat to peace in the region and he is our creation. The Arabs are not much to sneeze at but Israel is no saint either. Why we continue to support her unilaterally is beyond me. We will pay dearly for that stupidity. ted
