Character assassination is the lynch-pin of neo GOP politics. It's not their exclusive domain but they are the masters. The whole Whitewater investigation was nothing but a character assassination. Clintons were cleared of all charges except for Bill's sex life. That's what they really wanted. Can you imagine if the Dems were digging around in Bush's dirty laundry? You'd be howling mad. The right-wing can't win on their issues so they have to be richer and more ruthless. That's generally understood.
