I've got a ton of ideas as does almost anyone who has looked at this trade deficit/surplus situation but it involves difficult priorities for the Bush administration so there you go. For starters how about floating the yuan which would effictively double chinese labor rates (oh but we can't because China holds a ton of the huge debt that Bush rang up and refuses to play ball), and redirect the taxation levels on workers for SS to general income so that the cost is evenly divided across the tax base instead of concentrated around one group. Also cut SS taxes if possible by cutting benefits and deal with healthcare so that companies are not associating healthcare costs with every worker they hire. Detach healthcare from work, as it is in other countries. Any of these would help.
