he wasn't a monster but he was human like the rest of us.

From what I've heard of the mini-series it does portray Reagan as a monster and/or an idiot. I've heard conflicting claims about whether there were any total fabrications but there probably was at least the most negative spin possible applied to actual events. You can paint a very inaccurate picture without any fabrications. You can take all the bad things and none of the good things and spin the bad things in the worst way possible, or you can take disputed events and portray the worst possibility as the truth.

Also the timing isn't exactly good with Reagan sick and apparently declining. Something like this when he was president (and so fully fair game for the political mud that gets thrown around) or years after his death wouldn't be quite as bad.

What was leaked was a sentence the actor playing Reagan says.........I paraphrase........those who have sex in sin deserve to suffer from AIDS. That was leaked and caused Reagan fans to go ballistic and deny that he said that.

"According to the New York Times, “[playwright] Elizabeth Egloff … acknowledged there was no evidence such a conversation took place,” but that “other biographies noted that Mr. Reagan had trouble squaring homosexuality with the Bible."

To be frank..........I am disgusted. Reagan was not the saint conservatives make him out to be.........he wasn't a monster but he was human like the rest of us.

I'm just catching up with the thread, but I had to comment. I can't claim this analogy as my own, but it points out the issue well:

What they were trying to do would be similar to having Bill Clinton say "Let those black folks starve. They are just a bunch of Africans." when referring to Rawanda.

Would that be fair? Would you have an issue with that?

There is a big difference between having dramatic license, and taking advantage of the situation to alter people's perceptions.
