Are you illiterate GST, or just cognitively challenged? Because you're certainly one to assert someone else is "ranting"..

Well, if you can understand simple english, read this:

acronym.org.uk

Here's the section most relevant to this debate:

Determining that the situation in Iraq, although improved, continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security, (note by Hawk: this means UNSC 678 remains in force - "all necessary means....", which THUS does not prohibit the use of force to remove this threat)

Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, (Hawk's Note: binding resolution that ALL UN members are COMPELLED to uphold)

1. Reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, and underscores, in that context, the temporary nature of the exercise by the Coalition Provisional Authority (Authority) of the specific responsibilities, authorities, and obligations under applicable international law recognized and set forth in resolution 1483 (2003) which will cease when an internationally recognized representative government established by the people of Iraq is sworn in and assumes the responsibilities of the Authority, inter alia through steps envisaged in paragraphs 4 through 7 and 10 below:

2. Welcomes the positive response of the international community, in form, such as the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the United Nations General Assembly, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, to the establishment of the broadly representative Governing Council as all important step towards an internationally recognized, representative government;

3. Supports the Governing Council's efforts to mobilize the people of Iraq, including by the appointment of a cabinet of ministers and a preparatory constitutional committee to lead a process in which the Iraqi people will progressively take control of their own affairs;

So there you go GST.. The UN has recognized the Iraqi governing council, as well as acknowledging (thus legitimizing) the actions of the CPA as outlined in UNSC 1483.

So get over it.. The UN has recognized the CPA as a legitimate entity (although temporary)..

The "political process" has finally worked to get the UN involved and supporting reconstrution efforts.. You can CONVENIENTLY call if "air brushed" or even "grudging acknowledgement".. But it's a binding resolution which all member nations are supposed to uphold and support..

Unfortunately, it IS all so many words, not because it's airbrushed, but because the UN is only as capable as the willingness and capabilities of its members make it.. And THE US has ALWAYS pulled the biggest load within the UN when it comes to nation building and peace-keeping.

Which, once again, HIGHLIGHTS the specious and incredulous logic implicit in your calling for the UN to fully take over in Iraq...

Sounds like your airbrushing UN BLUE on the helmets of US soldier's helmets, accepting their historically demonstrated inability to cause nothing but chaos (Bosnia, Kosovo?) without the US bailing them out.

Why not just have the Screen Actor's Guild take charge? I would love to see some of them hop into uniform (obtained from their wardrobe handlers, of course) and securing that country..
