I'll only agree if you change 'very hard' to 'less good'. The US (IMO) is a country full of people of unrealistic expectations - and most people around the globe would love to 'suffer' to the extent that most americans feel they have during the latest economic slowdown. (i'm sure you've seen the reports suggesting most have borrowed their way through this downturn).
