Hussein had inspectors beginning to scour the country, no-fly zones preventing any "funny business", but the neocons had years ago decided to get unilateral control of Iraq. It took two years to fully inspect South Africa, but 6 months wasn't even allowed. Saddam was in a box.

The only difference between patient negotiation and bloody intervention was control of Iraq and political gain at home, not reduction of terrorism. It was obvious then, and more so now that bloody intervention increases terrorism, as even our Skelator knows from his supposed private memo, "golly, are we increasing terrorism faster than we can destroy terrorists?"

Either these neocon worthies are idiots, or they well know the results of these miseries is precisely the same suicidal counterattack witnessed since the hijacking of Iran in 1953, but in vastly multiplied numbers. These neocons are not idiots. They've had plenty of time to craft their plans, with plenty of crafty thugs rubbing their hands. There is money and political profit in those plans, covered as they are in ideology, and hundreds of billions buys lots of pretty ideology as the raptors wrap themselves in our flag.

You speak of Wahhabism, where did it come from? It arose from Iran, when Kermit "the frog" Roosevelt led the intel charge to unseat a peaceful duly-elected democracy in favor of privatizing the first of a string of countries under the secret domination of Dulles Bros Inc., in league with the British agent who admitted later his Communist alarm was made up out of thin air. The result - the massive crime became well-known among the clerics who became from this event forward savagely radicalized, unlike their prior peaceful state. This is reported in detail by declassified intel finally released in 2000 as written by Stephen Kinzer in his new book: "All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror"

That's a shocking conclusion. If he's right, there is much to atone for, for one thing. More to the point, there is a much different cause, and diametrically opposite solution to the growing worldwide religious conflict engineered by the advocates of empire. E.g., declare victory, toss the keys to the U.N., get the hell out, stop disrupting and hijacking countries, and activists will be less able to recruit and deploy their counterattacks.
