Scott,
re:" It turns out that Paul Bremer, our man in Baghdad, has decreed that come next year Iraq shall have a flat tax on individuals and businesses of 15 percent.

It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. Is Iraq to become a laboratory for all those right-wing brainstorms that have gone nowhere in this country..."

Harold Meyerson is behind the times. Somebody has already tried the flat tax, and seems to be happy with the results.

Article titled: "A Flat Tax Is Taking Root in, of All Places, Russia
From each according to...oh, never mind "

"Apr. 30, was the deadline for millions of Russians to trudge to the mailbox or down to the local inspectorate to pay their income tax. That tax is a flat 13% for everyone, making Russia one of the few nations that doesn't impose a bigger duty on its richer citizens. Why no protest? Because it's considered a great success in a land where a few years ago it was hard to get anyone to pay taxes at all." - Business Week, May 26, 2003
