In 2001, I decided to try to use options as a significant part of my portfolio. A very expensive education followed which convinced me that options should NOT be a mainstream choice for me 98% of the time.

I only use them when I have long-term faith in a company and don't want to put up much cash to benefit from that move. If UTSI doesn't close over 35 in May, my initial capital lost will be about .25% of my portfolio. My LEAP positions in TWX, L and RRI are also among the smallest position in the portfolio.

Options can be fun and useful - but practice safe sex with them, always be very careful.
