Inspections were not going fine. The US has found plenty since the invasion. There was no "rush to war", instead, there was a deliberate move in that direction that Saddam could have called off at any time by being more forthcoming. Given Saddam's duplicity, yes, it seemed better to get it over with, not for oil, but for national security......
