China May Halt Corn Exports In 2004

China may halt corn exports next year after a recent climb in domestic prices to their highest levels for years, traders and industry sources told Reuters News Service on Wednesday.
Following a government meeting in Beijing in late October, signs are growing that China may even default on contracts for corn shipments after January, they added.

Read from some Chinese board, the essential food (like rice, egg...) price is up 30%-50% recently. This combines with the ever-increasing unemployment with NO social safe net in cities, the government had better do something before it is too late. They should keep in mind that for a country like China, feeding people is the FIRST priority.
