<what I'm looking for is a viable alternative to the "cure" currently being applied.. And it isn't the UN..>

Correct. It's the NUN.

Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "Think of the people who died as a result of those sanctions (a big criticism for the past 10 years by peaceniks). Certainly that number was far more than the loss of life inflicted by the war. But the UN has never advanced the cause of "regime change". ..."

What's your point here? I'm NOT a fan of the UN. I think the UN bites. I was against the sanctions after it became clear that they weren't doing anything except motivating the Iraqi citizenry to hate us, and causing us trouble in other Arab nations.

The essence of your argument seems to be that it is moral to fight in Iraq because by doing so, we will make the world a better place not just for us, but also for the Iraqis. But invading in Iraq has not made us the least bit safer, and has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of our soldiers. It's small, but it's a waste. And the military is hardly happy about it.

As for Iraq, let the devil take them. Their gun happy population had the means to get rid of Saddam at any time during his disgusting career and instead of doing it, they either just laid back and enjoyed, or actively supported him. Iraqis have ALWAYS had far MORE GUN OWNERSHIP RIGHTS than the US has now. Why should I feel sorry for a bunch of people who had access to the tools of freedom, had millions of the tools, wouldn't use them to free themselves, and now are killing our soldiers who came there to free them?

If the Iraqis are so darned freedom hungry, let them fight off the Baathists themselves. If they're so darned afraid that they won't fight for their freedom, then to hell with them, our ancestors weren't afraid to fight, and neither are we.

Hey, I don't have any problem with giving the Iraqis weapons so that they can earn their freedom. But we don't need to. They're already armed to the hilt. What they need are brain transplants.
