>>My personal belief is that Communism wuz a misguided ( indeed perhaps noble) economic philosophy designed to end poverty and exploitation of the masses Whether the masses wanted it or not! <<

I agree with the 1st part (except that word "misguided"), but NOT the second part. Because an outsider like you (sorry, no offense) has no right, whatsoever, to judge whether the masses wanted it not. You are NOT one of Them. I recently spend a lot of time on all kinds of Chinese Forums/Internet boards, and on the phone, talking with people who are now in China, more and more Chinese become angry and a lot of them have second thought about where China is heading to now??? And keep in mind the people who can access the Internet are not the worst-off bunch, but still even if them are starting to complain. So what about those short-changed farmers. (no one can deny the Chinese economic system, ever since 1949, has exploited farmers and compensated the urban residents).

One guy who comes from countryside talked about the freedom of speech now in his village. He said when he was young (in 60s and 70s), there was a place where regular villagers could post complaining about the leaders in the village, without being afraid of revenge, and a lot of people did that. And they could also voice their complaining in regular village meetings. But now, NO one dare even to complain because they are afraid of being revenged upon. This revenge could be pretty bad, in a form of confiscating the land they are farming...

And don’t you wonder why a lot of Chinese have started to miss Mao? and why even if Russians are starting to reevaluate Stalin and wish USSR has not been dismissed?
