I had no idea they had underground vats.

Missouri Wineries Receive Honors in Two International Competitions
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – Missouri wineries fared well in two wine competitions held recently in California.

Seven Missouri wineries received a total of 30 medals in the San Diego National Wine Competition held April 26 and 27. This was the 20th anniversary of the competition, which featured 2,733 wines from 577 wineries.

Missouri wineries received a total of two Best of Class awards, five gold medals, nine silver and 14 bronze medals. Montelle Winery, Augusta, took home the Sweepstakes for Best in Competition of White Wine with its 2002 Seyval. St. James Winery won Best of Class for its 2002 Chardonel, while Montelle Winery captured the same honor for its 2002 Seyval.

Gold medals were given to Röbller Vineyard, New Haven, for its off-dry Traminette; St. James Winery for its 2002 Vintners Select Vignoles; and Stone Hill Winery, Hermann, for its 2002 Steinberg White, 2000 Estate Bottled Norton and 2002 Late Harvest Vignoles.

Adam Puchta Winery, Hermann, Augusta Winery, and Crown Valley Winery, Ste. Genevieve, also received awards for their entries in the San Diego competition.

At the Riverside International Wine Competition held May 3 and 4 in Riverside, Calif., six Missouri wineries received a total of 35 medals. Forty-two judges evaluated 2,572 wine entries from 508 wineries.

Missouri wineries received a total of two Best of Category awards, one Chairman’s Award, two gold medals, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals. Montelle Winery was awarded the Best of Category White Wine for its 2002 Seyval Blanc. Stone Hill Winery received the Best of Category for Dessert Wine with its Cream Sherry. St. James Winery’s Country Red took home a Chairman’s Award for Sweet Red Table Wine. Stone Hill Winery and St. James Winery each collected a gold medal for their 2002 Vignoles. Augusta Winery and Ste. Genevieve Winery also received awards for their wine entries in the Riverside competition.
