an atheist's values are based in religious principles whether they like it or not. For the atheist, it's a secondary effect. They live within some culture that has some religious foundation and it's that culture that influences them.

So in America, an atheist's values would be ultimately founded on Christianity. Interesting.

It follows that the religious foundation of a country has a positive value even to the non-religious, even to atheists. Sounds like something a "Straussian" would say, if I understand things correctly.
