Amy J, David,

I don't see Grove having any chance of being elected president, or being good president. First of all, he was not born in the US. Other than that, I would look for someone with character and ethics, and Grove doesn't strike me as excelling in either. He is ruthless, which is a quality that helps in getting elected.

Of all the CEOs, I think Jack Welch would be a good consensus candidate. I have no idea about his politics, but he just exudes confidence and trust.

If people get tired of partisan politics, Gates would actually not be a bad candidates. He is not partisan, kind of middle of the road, he is retired, does not need to raise funds. Balmer as a job to do.

Barrett needs to achieve something on his own. Not shrinking the company much is not much of an achievment. Nowhere near Gates, Welch and Grove in this category.

Joe

Gates & Balmer are not thieves.

Oh, but they are. Anytime you see anything in a Microsoft product that you THINK is innovation, it is a pretty safe bet that technology was stolen outright or strongarmed out of the creator. I can more examples than I'd care to. But for openers:

- The very concept for Windows was stolen (admittedly, Apple had not created it, either -- they got it from Xerox PARC; but at least Xerox PARC GAVE it to Apple).

- Disk compression technology. Stolen from Stac Electronics;

- The concept of RAD and tons of current Microsoft IDE technologies, stolen from Borland;

- The "Tabeset" metaphor for spreadsheets, stolen from Borland's Quattro Pro

I could really go on.

What would you do about these people's economic interests in their respective companys? Look at the personal attacks (without basis) Cheney has sustained, even though he has no financial interest in HAL!
