Welch - are you kidding - didn't you hear? He had the outrageously bizarre expenses and some other issues.

Welch did absolutely nothing that was inappropriate. The guy was inarguably responsible for the huge success of GE during the period he was at the controls.

He lived no more extravagantly than, for example, Barbra Streisand or Stephen Spielburg.

Good for him. I think he is a victim of the Peters' principle. He was well qualified for the job he had in the past. He did so well that he was promoted to job for which he is not qualified.

You mean personal finances / compensation? Well, that would earn him a lot of flack, but it shouldn't detract from what he achieved at GE. Wasn't the Clinton era mantra that it is about job performance, not about personal problems with money and law?
