TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Foundry chip supplier United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) reported its October 2003 net sales Friday (November 7, 2003) at NT$7,665 million (about US$225 million), up 1.9 percent from September 2003 sales and up by 27.2 percent over October 2002.

In the first ten months of 2003 UMC achieved net sales of NT$68,808 (about US$2.02 billion), an advance of 23.05 percent over the same period in 2002.

UMC's sales continue to follow a similar pattern to those of its larger rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC), which also announced October net sales on Friday (see November 7 story).
