Wasn't that report full of interesting facts?

Overall, I find it fascinating that there is so little agreement among political and religious groups

That is exactly what struck me-- that and the statement that abortion was "a fundamental aspect of human behaviour”.

I was thinking about a stray cat we once took in. It was pregnant at the time, and gave birth prematurely, due I imagine to malnutrition and abuse. She refused to have anything to do with the kittens at all. She knew they were early, and probably couldn't survive, perhaps. I don't know. We have had the same experience with runts being rejected while the others were accepted. It is heartbreaking for us, but the cat didn't seem too disturbed. We kept bringing the kittens to her and she would remove them and leave them in corners to die.
I am not sure where I am going with this train of thought... maybe thinking that the Danish 5th child is some sort of extension of this instinct. A sophisticated version of I can't care for this child well enough for its successful survival.

HA. Gender equality in the time of Aristotle and the Greeks was nonexistent. I have a book written by a female philopsophy professor (Woman and the History of Philosophy- Nancy Tuana) that goes through all the major philosophers and discusses their views on women. The Greeks considered us inferior physically, mentally, and morally.
So it makes sense they thought it took us twice as long to "animate".
I am always reminding the boys that I made them from scratch and they just laid around while I did it.

Regarding Mary and her rape... I hadn't thought if it before but you are right! Of course, there is a long history of Rape by Deities and a lot of parallels there.
When Neo was talking about Mary some time ago and how much she did for woman, I didn't say anything, but there is a contrary thought about this; that on the other hand, Mary was used to keep woman in her place. She was not allowed either to be fully woman, or to be worshiped. She was made a sinless, sanitized vessel, not really human (being born without original sin), but not a deity. The Church had a hard time keeping her in her place, though, since people kept trying to make her a goddess. And THAT certainly couldn't be allowed by the paternalistic system.
Now how did I get off on that!
:)
