Er, the ones I listed, for example. <<Some ideas that I think should get a full discussion and a public up or down decision include, yes, putting a marshal on every plane, national ids, with or without retina scan, cargo inspections, tracking down and removal of illegals and preventing reentry.>>Listen and see who is staying current with events, and who isn't. I don't think that's a good indicator of who's afraid. I know I tune out news when I get disgusted or depressed about where we're being led and I just can't stand to hear any more idiots bragging about it. I don't think that's an indicator or fear. The people who are riveted to the news are those who are pleased with what's going on and want to hear each thrilling detail. It's rather like watching a football game to conclusion when you're winning but turning it off when the game seems hopeless. As for fear, it's funny, I always thought it was the warmongers who were afraid. It has always seemed to me that it takes courage and confidence to turn the other cheek whereas one strikes back out of fear and anger. The folks I know to the left of me aren't afraid, at least they're less afraid of terrorists than they are of Bush. It's the folks to the right who think there's a bomb in every suitcase coming in from the ME and who are telling me to get out of Dodge. Funny, that difference in perceptions...because we have a free press, and people in various positions who feel free to leak very sensitive material, WHY would we put all our safeguards out in the open for the murderers/terrorists to circumvent??? Well, of course we wouldn't, not all of them, and certainly not all the details. But if we, for example, were to create a national ID, I'd think we'd advertise it even if we could implement such a thing in secret. Same with marshals in airplanes. Sometimes notice can be a deterrent. It's less risky if the terrorist learns there's a marshal on the flight before he gets on than when the plane is in the air and he's trying to press the button.
