I don't think the idea of some people making morally repugnant choices is the real fuse here, although those are the decisions that mostly fund the court system. Some people will make choices that are self serving and with malicious intent toward the assistee. With out a rule how would we determine which was which.

I agree that when we try to make a lot of rules to sort it out, we end up with more irresolvable legal cases than ones that we can settle. That's why I like one rule...don't do it.
