We have a water garden that is 40' x 20' with a waterfall at one end. During the summer it's pretty well covered with lotus and water lilies and the fish can hide. During the spring and fall the plants haven't come up or are dead so it's easy pickings for the herons. Now we don't mind the herons getting a few of the fish so they don't over populate but we don't want them all eaten either. I had one 7" fish that had 8 colors on it and eat out of my hand. I thought it was bigger than the bird could handle but it slid down that bastard's throat the other day.

Now I'm glad to see an endangered bird species on the come back but this heron is going to be really endangered if he keeps this up and I have to introduce him to Mr. 12 Gauge.
