I see a Windows Critical Notification update listed in the add/remove.
I removed it.

thecow--First let me thank you for your trouble. I never did get the glitches out. I tried HP online help and they couldn't get any fixes to work. I talked with some tech oriented people and they checked and said Internet Explorer 6.0 has the minimized screen, the startup toolbar set as a default and one is pretty much stuck. I didn't have time to find out about the weird water drop noise on ads. I finally realized all of my problems were coming out of IE. I downloaded Netscape Navigator on line and that browser lets me have the settings I want. It also has a pretty effective popup blocker and no sound effects on ads. The transfer was seamless except for one thing. I have never used this thing before and I can't figure out how to set the home page to what I want. If anyone out there knows how I would appreciate it.
All the Best
