No way, Bush wouldn't exploit fears, would he? And not for personal political gain. No way. gg

<Former Vice President Al Gore on Sunday accused President Bush's administration of undermining American civil liberties and exploiting public fears about terrorism to consolidate political power.>

Gore is absolutely correct here. President Bush wants passage of the "Antiterrorism Tools Enhancement Act of 2003" that would give the FBI "administrative subpoena" authority to confiscate any records and compel any testimony on its say so alone. The bill would eliminate court oversight entirely. President Bush also wants passage of the "Pretrial Detention and Lifetime Supervision of Terrorists Act of 2003" - a bill that would keep people accused of a whole range of new crimes behind bars, pending trial, by making those crimes presumptively "no bond" offenses. President Bush wants to expand the Patriot Act to further the reach of the federal death penalty by making it applicable to "domestic terrorism". Under the Patriot Act I, the crime of "domestic terrorism" could not be more broadly written. ANY criminal act intended to influence the government through "intimidation or coercion" involving "dangerous acts" qualifies.

The final outcome of all this is that the FBI, Homeland Security, CIA etc., etc., will be able to take ANY person off the streets while bypassing the courts and judiciary entirely.

That would establish(if passed) the political and classical tyranny or totalitarian regime. Courts still remain, but they only deal with issues between citizens.

The government itself and its agencies can act freely and independently of ANY court or judicial procedures. Under the Patriot Act and these new bills which President Bush wants passed, all designated agencies and their personnel cannot be compelled to appear before any court and are entirely independent.
