ROFL
did you read this too?

marxist.com

I was just going to post it :-)

I have read so much on this, and am totally convinced we are using the wrong model. It's so obvious that what we are doing is not working. But the obvious, is rarely taken into account when it comes to politics, and especially "morality politics".

I don't think people even begin to comprehend the global nature of our War on Drugs. We could save so much money on stupid drug interdiction efforts, and target terrorism. We could stop handing out subsidies to countries that don't really need it (in an effort to change the crops they grow) and begin to use our international dollars to promote democracy- instead of supporting drug interdiction juntas.

Farmers in poor areas could sell their coca and their opium without dangerous middlemen involved- because with the huge illegal profits out of the equation, we wouldn't need private armies to run these drugs.

There are so many benefits to decriminalization and legalization. And since we are seeing no benefits at the moment, some would be SO much better than none.
