If you are thinking of converting a sizable amount of money to U.S. funds for trading, bear in mind that the C$ is appreciating considerably against the $U these days and will likely continue to do so for a while. This can have quite a shocking effect on the %gains you think you are acquiring on your US holdings over time (even worse if you accrue losses).

I don't think a lot of traders have fully appreciated this yet.

I believe the current maximum for foreign content inside RRSP's is 30%, but your broker could tell you for sure. Outside that, I don't believe there are any limits (unless perhaps if you are a gazillionaire - I wouldn't know about that!)
