The whole Dem party is about to go after Dean. Kerry is just one of the point men since it directly affects him. He he cannot derail Dean then the next guy will, or if necessary Gore will. Whatever the case, Dean will not be the nominee unless Bush completely collapses. Only then would the party have any faith in Dean winning.
