You are quite correct in you comment about Expansion of slavery. Such expansion was caused due to Cotton being so hard on the soil and the need to continually move west to new fields. So, I agree with you there.

And this is why the South refused to remain in the Union and why the South persisted in war. It wished to perpetuate slavery and its expansion. The Civil War was, therefore, started and fought, chiefly over the issue of slavery.

However, regarding my nanny, if I understand you correctly if my Nanny was WHITE then she wouldnt have been considered our servant but being BLACK, alas she was demeaned in that role.

Please, JDN. This is ridiculous. The point was this: When the confederate soldier made his racist statement concerning why he was fighting the war, he was agreeing with vast numbers of southern leaders and also with the topmost leaders of the Confederacy as to why southerners were fighting the Civil War. When you mentioned your black nanny, you did it to try and counter the racist reality that in part fueled the war. The problem is, your black nanny, apart from existing a century after the war, was a servant. She was no family member because your relationship with her existed through her function as a servant. This does not counter the reality that fueled the Civil War.

Sadly, Northerners were AGHAST at the idea. And, if you knew blacks as well as I do, you would find THEY TOO were opposed to interracial marriage. Doesnt bother me one bit either way.

I certainly don’t claim racism does not exist in all groups. But this doesn’t help your point at all. You claim the racist southern current that fueled the Civil War was BS and that your black nanny shows it is BS. Well, your black nanny does no such thing.

I have our family tree going back to the American Revolution and the FRONTIER. Learned a lot of my forebearers married Indians

Well sure, but Indians were not really the cause over which the South fought the war, JDN.
