Polls show an anti-war candidate cant win nationally.
Despite the public's disapproval with the way Bush handled the war (rushing in alone with no peace plan) they generally admire his guts for standing up to Saddam. Those on the left don't care, but swing-voters are not going to hold it against Kerry or anyone else for voting conditionally on the war powers act. And Bushies are hypocritical for criticizing anyone who did.

Yes, Dean's anti-war stance gives him a left-wing base and he's un-opposed there, but that which helps Dean with the left hurts him nationally.

If you take the support for all four candidate who voted for the war powers and put them together, they swamp Dean about 50% to 15%. Kerry's problem is strictly in New Hampshire and now he's taking care of that. Hopefully it's not too late.

Glenn,

Who authored that particular analysis of Kerry the candidate? I agree with you that it is "an excellent analysis".

Name one candidate without "calculated ambition". Christ, dean has changed policies on seven major issues lately. Bush changes the spin daily. At least Kerry is consistent. Everything in politics is calculated except accidents.
