Gephardt was the favorite of 27 percent, Dean 20 percent, and Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, 15 percent, the Des Moines Sunday Register said. That represents a gain of 6 percentage points for Gephardt and a 3-point drop for Dean since July. The poll, conducted Nov. 2-5, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The remaining candidates were in single digits.
