China to build first satellite group for disaster reduction
Press Trust of India
Shanghai, November 10

China on Monday invited other nations to be partners in building the world's first constellation consisting of eight satellites that will be in place in less than a decade to monitor natural disaster and help environmental protection.

"China will, together with some other countries, develop and launch three or four satellites in two to three years and the rest of the eight satellites in five to eight years from now to set up the constellation," Luo Ge, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the China National Space Administration was quoted as saying by Xinhua News Agency.

Luo made the announcement at the Drafting Meeting on the Convention of Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organisation.

Circling over 700 kilometres above the Eearth, the eight satellites will monitor the natural condition of the planet and the images and data they send back will be first used by Asia-Pacific countries for peaceful purposes.

Luo said other countries interested in the programme would be welcomed as partners.

sure. and even if that were to happen, where's the investment scenerio in that? china house builders? mini ductless split air conditioners? bank loan companies? are the banks ready to moderate that much money, let alone the risk pool that currently exists? It is a long long road from point A to point B on such a giant scale... will anyone but direct hit and run investors make the dough? vs. equity investors vis a vis stock markets?

Maybe Jay has a thought. or someone else.
