zonder, I believe a lot of folks in the US like Bush's dummied down style. There is a large segment of this country that really doesn't give a flying f### about playing fair or diplomacy. Especially after 9/11. If I had a nickle for every time I've heard someone say that we should turn the whole Middle East into a parking lot, I'd be swimming in nickles. This attitude towards Muslims lingers from the Iranian hostage thing.

You make the mistake of thinking that the general population is informed and concerned with fair play. I'm not saying it is right, but the 'Kill em all, let God sort em out' mentality is not as rare as you think. Joe sixpack wants a semi-loony cowboy to shake up the world IMO. Thats what they have in Bush. This country is so polarized on this subject it is frightening.

z, You have to remember that there has been a huge dumbing down in America. And probably in the rest of the world, too. And we have always had an affinity for low-brow, cowboy types, who don't waste a lot of time thinking. I kind of admire those action figure guys, too. Where I have a problem is that the real action heroes, JFK, John McCane, Audie Murphy, etc. do not carry the same panache as the fakes, such as Dubya, Reagan, John Wayne, etc. But, I guess we're looking for a bargain and we can buy a much larger cubic zirconium ring than we can an actual diamond ring.
