Palast's book includes lotsa black and white evidence of the voter scrubbing conspiracy as well as admissions by the GOP-activist owned consulting company that what they did was totally wrong and illegal. Just as Cheney said he "mis-spoke" when he told us Iraq was close to having nukes, their GOP consulting company admitted they had "made mistakes" by not cross-checking voters names with birth dates and states.

The way it worked was, even though ex-felons can legally vote in Florida, the GOP activists hired by Jeb made a list of every ex-felon in the country starting with a huge list from Texas (supplied by his brother's office), then every one of those names (focusing on keeping the minority sounding names) was thrown willy-nilly into the Florida data base and anyone with a similar name was taken off the voter rolls. So if you're Juan Gonzalez or Leroy Brown and you're born around the same time as sone ex-felon in Texas or elsewhere with a similar name you're not allowed to vote. This program combed through the voter rolls a few times, removing 57,700 mainly minority voters including ministers, businessmen, doctors, you name it. Also, even if the voter was an ex-felon he had a right to vote in Florida anyway, so the whole notion was illegal.

The NAACP sued Jeb Bush and an out-of-court settlement was reached. No publicity in exchange for Jebsters stopping the practice after the 2002 election. However, they are using the same system in other GOP controlled states for 2004.
