I really believe that if Gore were president, we would be agressively investing in alternative fuels right now, maybe even the hydrogen fuel cars if those are workable. Gore was really good about getting inventions out there in the commercial enterprise. Bush pays lip service but then rewards the old system, like the 100K ttax cut for gas guzzlers. Cronyism always prefers the status quo.

We have to have a new energy policy before wew can sanction Saudi Arabia. Dean's remark was damaging to our current interests. Five years from now if a new presdient successfully has us getting off oil and conserving, plus secured flows from other places, then we could sanction Saudi Arabia. But not yet. Bushies fight conservation, but that move alone would make it possible to begin to get tough with the Saudis.
