GDP grew at 7% last quarter, unemployment is going down, nothing is going to "grind to a halt".

LOL. Elaine Chao is the mail-order Asian bride of one of the worst sleazes in Congress:

Mitch McConnell of KY.

He's bisexual. The press knew it in 1990.

Just FYI.

Society as a whole is better off if fewer people are used to produce more stuff. The best way to accomplish that is to have a global economy in which work naturally flows to the people (resources) who are best at a given task. If that means that the Japanese design and assemble cars and the Americans design software and movies and the Indians work on microchips along with the Chinese, so be it. They are a helluva lot better at those things than I am, and the world is way better off having them do those things rather than have each home market be a protected zone for workers in every industry. In the end, having tasks flowing to those who can create the most value with their time and effort for others results in a world that has more stuff for everyone. You end up with someone like me making satellites fly, and my wife wife helping you cut your taxes and count your spoils.

And somebody needs to find, pump, and refine oil to keep all that moving. If you think oil is worthless, then the claim that Bush invaded Iraq for it is simply stupid, isn't it?

That is what happened in mid-2002, ask any high value add exporter.
Maybe it happened to you. We're still selling satellites.

Other industries were also hurts like tourism.
You think a few more hijackings would have helped tourism? Have you noticed thay stopped?
