Good news, indeed, for WDC.

Alps Electric Co. suffered its biggest loss since Jan. 9, 2001, slumping 226 yen, or 12 percent, to 1,639. The world's second-biggest maker of magnetic heads for disk drives after TDK Corp., cut its annual group net income forecast by 13 percent as first-half operating profit slumped 12 percent to 19 billion yen.
