To buy an island is all very well, but that takes serious money, if one is even available and of any use for actually living on. Ted Kaczynski [the Unabomber] was right. We are stuck in the development of a new entity and being subsumed by it. The military industrial complex is the old name. We are not biologically designed for life inside such an entity. We are designed for life as part of tribal chimpoid alpha male dominance hierarchies, fighting for existence in a red in tooth and claw ecological system. A bubbling cauldron of DNA feeding on itself. We aren't designed for such a life as has been created, with perversions of our natural desires which motivate us in our 'natural' state, such as the taste for sweetness and calories being perverted by supermarkets full of sugar, fat and factory produced flavours but without the naturally associated nutrients which our bodies need. We no longer need to work, physically, in a hunter-gatherer, or agricultural effort. But the big change is coming and that's the creation of It , a cyberspace entity with its own sentience and purpose. We'll be mere worker ants for that Frankenstein monster, which will be indifferent to us, rather than malevolent. Just as we are indifferent to chimps and other monkeys, our cuzzies, who we ignore. Our common chimpoid antecedents provided the template for our creation, just as we are providing the template for the next level of mind over matter. See Bill Joy's "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us" for example. And Ray Kurzweil's "The Age of Spiritual Machines". And Stephen Hawkings' rants. Google can help you with finding those. Forget about 'free'. We are stuck in the matrix whether we like it or not. Free is only a relative term. Unfortunately, government bossy-britches busy-bodies see it as their purpose in life to tell other people how to run their lives. I prefer the indifference of It which will counterintuitively give us greater freedom. The idea of the USA or China or some other "empire" being top dog is anachronistic. That's so 19th century. Even the UN [or NUN] is a 20th century relic, though still serving a good purpose. The NUN will be obsolete almost as it is formed. We the Sheeple are linking up in the synapses of cyberspace and will rule the world....hahahahaahahahaha..... until It , which is merely a zygote right now, becomes the zeitgeist and leaves home like a grown up teenager to seek their fortune and rule the universe.
