China Netcom, China Telecom to Provide Value-Added IP Services Using Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Node from Nortel Networks

BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2003--China Netcom and China Telecom have each selected Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Node (BSN) from Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) to provide a foundation for delivering value-added broadband IP (Internet Protocol) services to end-users.
China Netcom's Shandong Branch will deploy Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 BSNs to build the second phase of its provincial IP-based Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). This will cover the cities of Jinan, Qingdao, Dezhou, Yantai, Zibo, Rizhao, Jining, Tai'an, Weihai, Zaozhuang, Heze, Dongying and Liaocheng. China Netcom Shandong plans to offer value-added services like secure Internet access, content delivery, IP VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and traffic management to enterprises and other high-end customers.
