AFSCME endorsement ain't no big deal. They endorsed me once. Really. I was actually shop steward for the RT department, and AFSCME be berry, berry goud to me. (Because I was steward, and the first Registered Therapist they ever had as a floor therapist ( Registered boss was a wonderful lady who literally developed the field in Northern California, and, whom, I think, was first employed during WW2 training Marine drill sgts.), we managed to get my salary above that of RNs. It was probably the only time in the history of RT that a therapist got higher pay than the nurses. My satisfaction was that the director of RN was a little Napoleonic prick who also was connected with the Cal NursesAssoc, so he negotiated RN salaries with his own elf, so I could gloat, and eventually, it got the RNs more $, jaja). BTW, I think I got a raise from $680/ mo to $780 :-) But I digress. One night , at a X-mas party, a member of the hospital board, whom we had endorsed, said I should run for the San Mateo County Community College District Board. Now,you have to remember, I was young and drunk and right out of the anti-war stuff, thinking we could change the world, andI was drunk, so I said "Cool". (But, to be fair, I was drunk.) AFSCME endorsed me, along with 2 others. I took 6th out of 6. I only spent about $28 on leaflets. Got something like 12K votes, missed 5th by about 80, to a lady who must have spent thousands on signs. But, I was drunk.
