I agree with your comments in the UAW and engineering aspects (as with OMD comments)....

as for the Cayenne's box looking....

well... I hesitantly agree as far as the looks go... but there must be a reason and that is the marriage between a fast high performance vehicle and the realities of where the SUV will be driven .... so I believe that the ugly looks of the Cayenne... --all things considered-- is justified....

When it comes to performance, looks may come in second place

i take no pleasure in my assessment of the u.s. automakers, in fact it pisses me off mightily that what was once a symbol excellence of american engineering and production is now viewed as a dying breed

The only way "American engineering" (and business and industry at large) will get out of their current rut in some of the fields is to get rid of the "union" mentality, the "society owes me" consumer... and of course of the "I will sue you for millions" lawyers.... otherwise.... what is the motive for an engineer to trully excell when you have all these negatives staring at you in the eye...?

and btw... the HO HO HO was more directed as a personal revenge against the shitty attitude that the GM dealership and customer service had towards me.... --just to clarify.
