Well I will be damned. So Eshbach was right. They did mention a test where they set up salt spray hoses that played on metal plates that were variously coated for several years and recorded the results. I mentioned that to people concerning car undercoatings and corrosion control. the answer you get is that Aluminum plating is expensive. It does eat electrons some. Virtue becomes a vice when you are trying to ge the damn stuff to plate.

You don't want zinc or aluminum on exhaust pipes or mufflers as the fumes would be some dangerous. Never use galvanized stove pipe except outdoors. Another thing I have never understood is why they do not use sacrificial anodes on cars, of magnesium like they do on pipelines, or active galvanic protection like they do on ships. Make the car a cathode (negative pole of a battery -36 volts to vehicle, no return) and it cannot corrode. For that you would have to lead your negative poles on all electrics back on an isloated copper bus bar. It may not work, as isolated pits that form current loops are what corrode iron on a car. A hint is never combine copper with iron. An engine manufacturer in the States that also made washing machines did that with a car, (Hillier?) and the engine fell apart in a few seasons.
