or maybe late 2000 to oct 2002 was a crazy bear in the middle of a much, much longer term bull, made significantly worse than a "normal" correction due to the crazy valuations we reached in early 2000

draw a line under the dow advance through the 80's and 90's (the technology/efficiency/mostly low interest rate era) and we have just corrected back to and then below that line, and are now approaching it from below...similar pattern on the s&p, and even on the ndx

perhaps we went wildly higher, then just as wildly lower, and now we resume more normal growth of 8 to 12% a year, with great opportunities to exceed those returns with solid stock picking and money management

just a thought that occurred to me, i haven't seen anything like this written anywhere, so either i'm onto something no one else has thought of, or i'm just doing too much of that glass half full stuff again <g> in any event, we sure climbed the wall of worry nicely today :)
