Grass roots candidates have never won. Ever.
We heard this same talk about Perot, McCain, McCarthy, Tsongas, Bradley, Buchanon, etc. None of them ever came close to a nomination or presidency.

Why? Because unless the party believes they can win it, they will block them. The RNC doesn't really have that kind of power, but the DNC does. Ironically, the Democratic party isn't very democractic when it comes to nominations. 850 or so out of the 2100 delegates needed to win are controlled by the DNC and major party officials. So far, I have not seen a single one of them endorse Dean. Unions dont give you a single delegate.

The DNC firmly believes Dean is only the fifth best cabndidate to go against Bush. They will bring Gore back in if necessary. But NOT Hillary. Put goether the delegates won by the other candiates and it will probably be well over 50% no matter how well Dean does. That together with the Super delegates beats Dean by a 2-1 margin.

Mephisto,

Re: They travel back and forth across the country in a small plane!

Oh, really? They should stop right now. We've had this conversation. Small planes have this uncanny habit of falling out of the sky. Dean should raise some money so he can at least fly a Boeing 717 or something of that nature. And hire 24/7 palace guards to keep Rove's henchmen away from the craft.
