Hi Elmat - I agree with your point that you can see infrastructure build history like tree rings - heavy for certain times, very light at others.

I thnk we need to careful distinguish where there will be shortages and where gluts will persist for a long time.

For example, the NFL cities which had 4-6 carriers all putting in extensive fiber, and still with 90% plus 'dark fiber ' With the increased through put form better optical systems, most of that fiber will not be needed.

As buisness grows, I would expect the trans Atlantic and Pacific cables to fill up.

I like the idea of clever stuff levearging plant that is already in place. The ROI and productivity gains from this are very high.

As the plant deteriorates over the long term, there can be a question of the national and economic will to repair/rebuild/replace, especailly if regulators or economic forces have pushed prices down below where the rerbuilding can be paid for.
