I agree with your analysis of the discussion. FWIW, Dr. Crippen is no longer as black/white as he was in the olden days (circa 1995, 1996). By now, I should have googled to see how the twins fared. I shall do that in the next couple of days to see if any follow-up information is available. All of the discussions on Dr. Crippen's page are worth reading and considering. Most deal with real cases, while others are hypotheticals and still others are served up with the list Gruppenmiester's tongue planted firmly in his buccal mucosa.
