From the Article - The most common conclusion was that until the United States does something concrete to force Israel to free millions of Palestinians kept under military occupation, all American statements about greater democracy and freedom will ring hollow.

My Comment - That's just silly. If we don't free Tibet or North Korea does that mean any statements we make about Democracy or freedom are hollow?

I don't see the analogy.

The article (or the people who's opinion the article was sampling) where saying that statements by the US in support of freedom and democracy for Iraq are hollow unless the US supports the idea of the Palestinians being free from Israeli occupation. That only makes sense if you believe that supporting freedom in one place means you have to support it in all places. If we free Iraq and don't free the Palestinians (who don't face the type of abuse that Saddam dished out) that doesn't mean we aren't really supporting freedom in Iraq, any more then the fact that we freed the French from German occupation in the 40s and didn't go on to rapidly free the Polish from Soviet occupation, meant we were not serious about freedom and democracy for the French.

So then, we can ignore them?

No we shouldn't ignore them, but not enforcing what they want isn't a sign that the US doesn't really care about freedom and democracy in Iraq, or even that Americans or the current administration wouldn't like to see a peaceful, free and democratic Palestinian state. Unfortunately creating a peaceful free and democratic Palestinian state would not be easy, and such a state will probably never exist as long as Arafat is in charge.
