It completely omits the involvement of the British in Mossadegh's overthrow.. Of course, they believed that his attempt to nationalize their property (BP's oil investment in Iran) was inherently illegal so they issued boycotts.. The US, being heavily invested in Saudi Arabia, obviously didn't want the Saudis to get any "bright ideas" about nationalizing their own oil, so eventually they supported the British attempts to replace Mossadegh. Of course, Mossadegh made this effort easier by alienating almost every major support group within Iran and creating instability. I ain't saying it was right.. It just was a battle of powerful will and agendas on all sides... They felt they could just nationalize the property of a foreign investor, while the governments of these investors believe such precedents were a danger to ALL international investments and the rule of law. But the primary point should be understood that Iran was primarily under British influence prior to the reign of the Shah. The British made most of the policy decisions in that country.. And often they would seek the support of the US, trying to convince us that our interests coincided with theirs. asiasource.org Hawk
